The Libertarian Party of Montgomery County will hold its 2024 convention on Saturday, July 6, at 6 pm, at Brixx Ice Company in downtown Dayton. This Convention will replace both the July 7 social and the July 18 business meeting. The July business meeting will occur immediately after the adjournment of the convention.
We will elect members to two-year terms on the Executive Committee and consider amendments to the party Constitution and Bylaws.
Constitutional amendments must be posted publicly before June 6. If you have a proposed amendment, please email it to us before this date so that it can be posted. Notice of Convention with all proposed amendments will be available on this website. Check back after June 6 to review the proposed amendments.
If you plan to run for a seat on the Executive Committee, informing us in advance will allow us to place your name on pre-printed ballots. Candidates may also be nominated from the floor, but their names will need to be written in by the delegates.
The requirements to be a delegate are defined in our Constitution:
A. Has affirmed the following pledge: “I hereby certify that I do not believe in or advocate the initiation of force as a means of achieving political or social goals.”
B. Is not legally affiliated with another political party.
C. Resides in Montgomery County, Ohio.
Delegates may be required to show their voter history, viewable on https://lookup.boe.ohio.gov/vtrapp/montgomery/vtrlookup.aspx, to satisfy the requirements of B and C. In this history, your partisan affiliation must show as “X” (unaffiliated) or “L” (Libertarian) in the most recent primary election you participated in. You may not be a candidate, officer, or elected official for another political party.
We will host elections for the LPO Central Committee’s Congressional District 10 representatives at the same time as our County Convention. The following information has been posted by the LPO:
Anyone interested in running for a seat on the Central Committee should email [email protected], put “CentCom Candidate” in the subject, include your full name, address, phone, email, and what US Congress district you’re in in the body of the email – deadline to register is June 15th. Requirements to be on our Central Committee can be found in our bylaws on the LPO website.
Any party members who want to vote for your rep but can’t make an in-person election in your district, there will be an absentee ballot request form on the website shortly – look for the 2024 Central Committee elections page. Deadline to request an absentee ballot will be the first day elections are open, June 22nd. And the deadline to submit them – must be postmarked by Saturday July 13th to meet our tabulation deadlines.
Any questions email [email protected]. Additional info will be on the website in the next few days, and LPO In The Know will have some info via email to all members soon.
